Aleksandr Pushkin played a central role in Nabokov's life and art. His dedication to the Russian literary giant manifested itself in the creation of several characters who are driven by philosophies of art similar to Pushkin's own, and in Nabokov's own ten-year-long project to finish this very literal translation of Eugene Onegin into English.
