The reason we are drawn to linearity – and surely always will be – is that
we live in time. We cannot escape the line. Nor is hypertext really
non-linear. Rather, it is both associative and linear; the non-linear tag
it carries refers more to its construction which does not enforce a strict
authorial line. No matter how or what you read, you make a line. That’s
the point of constructive and even exploratory hypertext: *You* Make
The Line.
