That hiccup is, I’d hope, a hiphop, a Cole Porterish intoxicated bubble of
elation at the continuity of reading as the right term for the present
moment of participation and co-authorship. As Calvino said in his
extraordinary 1967 essay, “Cybernetics and Ghosts,” “once we have
dismantled and reassembled the process of literary composition, the
decisive moment of literary life will be that of reading.” Let’s call it
that.
