What wonderful intimacy and humanity accompanies this sentence, making me
less skeptical of the place where Carolyn says: “it’s easy enough to
imagine our grandchildren some day rhapsodizing about the sound of a
mouse-click, or the feel of a touch-pad” and making me recall my own
utterly skeptical first episode of Powerbook reading (which seemed a
profoundly foolish notion, as foolish as a power breakfast, despite the
intellectual and artistic investment many of us had in it) and the delight
which followed waking to a soft sweet active matrix light from a cold-sweat
of fearful dreaming that the thing had tumbled to the hardwood after I
dozed.
