Give Stacy a break! She got an electronic love letter, and it worked the way
that good love letters have always done since some cavemuffin first
scratched one on a rock with a sharp stick. We should all be so lucky.

As many have discovered, cyberspace has a powerful and sometimes liberating
erotic dimension, providing possibilities ranging from tentative email
flirtation through electronic cross-dressing encounters in MUDs and MOOs to
kinkier games (mostly imagined rather than actually enacted) with fancy
telepresence gear. Like other modes of communication and self-presentation
— but with some new twists — it allows endless subtleties and variations
on all the usual themes of declaration, intimation, invitation, arousal,
celebration, coy concealment, revelation, and wistful displacement of
desire. I don’t think anyone has gone blind from exploring them.
