Career

Benzino co-founded the then-famous American Hip-Hop Journal “The Source” with David Mays during their days at Harvard. The company operated for over two decades until 2006, when it was shut down due to bankruptcy.

Benzino’s rap career started with the “Almighty RSO” rap group. In 1996 the group released the album “Doomsday: Forever RSO,” and in that same year, Benzino released the album “In That Company of Killaz” ft Wiseguys.

Later on, Benzino co-founded the “Made Men” rap group. They released the album “Classic Limited Edition” I’m 1999.

In 2001, Benzino released his debut solo album “The Benzino Project. He released the album remix “The Benzino Remix Project” in 2002.

That same year, Benzino got into a feud with the famous American rapper Eminem. The beef started when “The Source” magazine rated Eminem’s hit album”The Eminem Show” 4 out of 5 mics.

Eminem claimed that the album should have gotten five out of five mics and blamed Benzino for the rating, maintaining that it was racist.

The feud resulted in an exchange of diss tracks. The tracks included Benzino: “Pull Your Skirt Up” and “Die Another Day,” Eminem: “The Sauce” and “Nail in the Coffin.” The beef also involved other rap stars like 50 cent and G-unit, who were on Eminem’s side, and Ja Rule, who stood with Benzino.

Personal Life

Benzino engaged his former girlfriend, Althea Heart, on the “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” show, which both of them were a part of until they were kicked out for having a feud with other cast members in the front.

The couple had a son, Zino, in November 2015. The couple broke up in 2015, and unlike some media pages claim, they never got married in the first place.

Althea got a restraining order against Benzino after the breakup, claiming that he had threatened her severally and even got abusive.

Benzino has other children named Coi Leray and Chavo, who are in the music industry too.

Benzino can be said to be quite controversial. He’s appeared in the news several times for different wrong reasons. He got shot in 2014 by his Nephew, Gai Scott, during his mother’s burial.

Gai maintained that Benzino had threatened his family several times and shot him in self-defense. Benzino has been in and out of police custody a couple of times too.

Lifestyle
