Somewhere back in the early seventies, Rolling Stone wrote an article which would cover the same ground as Gifford's does. However, things change, and so does Muzak. Far be it for me to weigh in on Muzak's side, but besides Environmental, they now have many other satelite-delivered channels, including a holiday makeover for Environmental, so that if you desire, you can have total Christmas music, say, several weeks before the holidays. They also have Country, Light Jazz, Easy Rock, Pop, and some time ago, they were experimenting with a Latino channel. Since I'm in the hotel industry as an audio-visual manager, I have to keep up with M as part of my job. Also, the programming comes over very cleanly and with near-CD quality. This is especially nice when an upscale dinner shows up and we throw on the Classical channel. Blows'm away. Naturally this caused the hotel some problems as we had to come up with the cqsh to do some serious rennovation to our amps, speakers, and invest in an equalizer or two, but it's been worth it. I really enjoy the jazz channels and crank up the sound later in the day in the office when I need some rock. BTW, this is most always performed by the original artists, so it's a joy to listen to. Course, what I really like is the Steely Dan stuff at 6:30 in the morning or the slowest version of "Walk-Don't Run" you've ever heard, rendered (in the truest sense of the word) with strings on Environmental.
