By the age of 15, Taylor had already lived in 25 states due to his mother’s constant search for work.
Taylor saw the trailer for the film Halloween with his mother in 1979, which inspired his sense of style later on when he joined Slipknot.
He was introduced to Elvis Presley and Rock and Roll by his grandmother before discovering Black Sabbath. He was inspired by both of these bands and genres but didn’t realize his own aspirations of becoming a singer until rocking along to “Separate Ways” by Journey.
In 1983, his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida when his mother got a job as a security guard on Burt Reynolds’ ranch.

Taylor founded the band Stone Sour in 1992. He left the band temporarily in 1997 to work with Slipknot.
