Background

Dua Lipa was born on August 2, 1995, in Westminster, London. Her parents, Dukagjin and Anesa Lipa are Albanian and Kosovan.

She is the oldest of three children, and she has a sister named Rina and a brother named Gjin. She is from a Muslim family and her ancestry can be linked back to the city of Peja, Kosovo.

Lipa was interested in music from the early age of 5 as she was greatly influenced by her father, who was the lead guitarist and vocalist of the rock band, Oda. He continually played music at home, which included his own composition and that of his favorite artists.

Growing up in West Hampstead, London, Lipa was enrolled in Fitzjohn’s Primary School, where she learned to play the cello. She took singing classes when she was 9 at the Sylvia Young Theatre School after she was told that “she could not sing” after auditioning to join her school choir.

When she was 16, Dua Lipa began writing and recording her own songs, as well as making covers of other popular songs, including compositions from artists like Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera, and uploading them on YouTube. Eventually, this caught the attention of a management team.

Shortly after, she signed with Warner Music Group and released her debut single, “New Love”.  Her second single, “Be the One,” which was released in October 2015, became a hit in Europe and helped her gain popularity in the music industry.

In 2017, Lipa released her debut album, self-titled “Dua Lipa”. The album included hit singles like “New Rules” and “IDGAF,” which made her an international star as “New Rules” became a number-one song in the UK as well as a top ten song in over 10 countries, including the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

What Triggered the Rumor About Dua Lipa’s Sexuality?

Dua Lipa has always been vocal about her support for the LGBTQ+ community and she has openly spoken out against homophobia and discrimination. She has also performed at several Pride events and donated proceeds to LGBTQ+ organizations.

Many fans have drawn conclusions from this fervent and unwavering support for the gay community to speculate that Dua Lipa is gay. Another reason behind this rumor could be found in the music video of her popular hit single, “New Rules”.

YouTube video

The video, which has over 2.8 Billion views and 16 Million likes on YouTube, was interpreted by some to be a hint at her sexual orientation as a lot of women were seen in the video dancing alongside Lipa, and no man was seen in the video.

Another thing to look at is that Dua Lipa has never been married despite being involved in many high-profile relationships. For every failed one, the reason for the breakup has been a bit unclear, leaving fans to wonder if she just isn’t into men.

Is The Rumor True?

Dua Lipa has never come on record to state that she is gay, and so, the rumor is most definitely not true. Although she has been long regarded, and wrongly so, as a “gay icon”, Dua Lipa has always been romantically involved with men.
