Jo Koy was born on June 2, 1971, to an American Air Force officer and a Filipina mother in Tacoma, Washington. Later the family relocated to Las Vegas after his High School education at Spanaway Lake High School.

He then went on to study at Nevada University, Las Vegas but dropped out to become a stand-up comedian. Today, even though Jo is neither as popular nor as rich as Dr. Phil, he is still one of the most notable stand-up comedians in history.

Career And Awards

Jo Koy’s career started in Las Vegas in the 90s when he was only 13. He came into the limelight with his regular appearance in the “Catch a Rising Star” show at the MGM Grand.

He then moved to Los Angeles where he rented the Huntridge Theater, selling his show tickets door to door. He was then invited to BET’s “Comic View”.

So far, Jo has appeared in two seasons of “Comic View”. He has also starred in the popular  “Jamie Foxx Presents Laffapalooza!” Show.

Jo is known to be a regular guest commentator on the late-night TV show “Chelsea Lately”, where he has appeared in over 100 episodes.

In addition, Jo is one of the very few comedians to have received a standing ovation after performing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”. It was one of the achievements that characterized his career.

Jo is also a regular guest on “The Adam Carolla Show”. He also appeared on the Tru TV show “World’s Dumbest” and “New Millenium.”

Jo married his now ex-wife, Angie King in February 2003. That same year, they had their first and only child, Joseph Herbert Jr.

The union lasted for 10 years and in 2013, the couple officially got divorced. In an interview, Jo stated that the divorce did not affect their relationship with their son, stating that they would remain close friends even after the split.

Jo started dating his close friend and TV host, Chelsea Handler and they announced their relationship officially on Instagram on September 27, 2021. The relationship wasn’t meant to last as they broke up a year after.
