Also wounded were police officer Thomas Delahanty and Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, and he critically wounded Press Secretary James Brady, who was permanently disabled in the shooting and died 33 years later on August 4, 2014.

John Hinckley Jr.’s Obsession With Jodie Foster’s Assassination Attempt On President Ronald Reagan
After watching actress Jodie Foster in the 1976 film, “Taxi Driver,” John developed an obsession with her. When Jodie enrolled at Yale University, John also went to New Haven, Connecticut, to stalk her because he was so infatuated with her.
Jodie receives love letters and sappy poems from John. However, when he was unable to establish concrete communication with her, he began to fantasize about killing himself by hijacking an aeroplane in front of Jodie.
Additionally, he later decided to kill the president to impress Jodie. He followed President Jimmy Carter from state to state before being taken into custody on accusations related to a handgun.
He went home after receiving the release. But even after receiving psychiatric care, his mental state remained unchanged.
He then decided to kill Ronald Reagan, who had just been elected president. He fired six shots at Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981, as he was leaving the Hilton Hotel following a seminar.
In the assassination attempt, Hinckley did not hit President Reagan directly but a bullet ricocheted off the Presidential limousine and hit him in the chest. The bullet caused a serious injury to Reagan.
Also affected were police officer Thomas Delahanty and Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy, and press secretary James Brady. Brady was hit in the right side of the head, remaining paralyzed on the left side of his body until his death on August 4, 2014. Brady’s death was ruled a homicide 33 years after the shooting
A Cleveland Ohio labour Official, Alfred Antenucci, saw Hinckley taking the shots and approached him. He then hit Hinckley in the head and pulled him to the ground.
Before doing this, he also penned a letter to Jodie in which he said that despite writing to her frequently, he lacked the confidence necessary to approach her. He will now kill the president to win her over.
John was detained and accused of thirteen felonies. Due to his lunacy, he was not found guilty, nevertheless.

He received treatment in the hospital for more than fifteen years before being finally discharged on July 27, 2016, since he was confirmed to pose no threat to himself or others.
