Kumandran is based on various real-world languages, but it is not a perfect match for any one of them.

This artificial language was created specifically for the movie, and it includes words from Thai, Lao, Malay and other languages spoken in Southeast Asia.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Kumandran is the way it handles honorifics. In many Asian languages, there are different words that must be used depending on the relationship between the speaker and the person they are talking to.

For example, in Thai there are five different words that can be used to say “you”: khun (for someone of a higher social status), khap (for someone of a lower social status), chan (for a friend), phom (for an older relative) and nang (for a younger relative).

Kumandran simplifies this by having just two words for “you”: sia and nei. Sia is used when talking to someone of a higher social status, and nei is used when talking to someone of a lower social status.

This system is similar to the way “you” is used in English, but it is still interesting to see how Kumandran has borrowed from other languages to create a unique system.
