Zachary Alexander Brown was born on July 31, 1978, in Atlanta Georgia. Zac as he’s fondly called is the 11th child of 12. He grew up with his mother, Bettye, and his stepfather Dr. Jody Moses on Lake Lanier.

Brown attended Mashburn Elementary School in Cumming, Georgia, and then proceeded to Lakeview Academy in Gainesville. He took up his mom’s guitar as a young boy and took two years of classical guitar lessons with one of his stepfather’s patients.

Zac would play with his father and brother during weekend visits. Soon he developed a love for bluegrass music. Back to Cumming, Zac returned to high school but this time, he went to South Forsyth High School, and at 17, he graduated from Lumpkin County High School, Dahlonega from where he proceeded to the University of West Georgia

Career and Achievements

Brown founded the Zac Brown Band in 2002 alongside bassist Jacob Lawson and percussionist Marcus Petruska, Two years later, Brown and his father established a restaurant and music venue in the Lake Oconee region of Georgia.

After the establishment was bought by a developer, Brown bought a tour bus and started performing full-time. The Zac Brown Band then issued “Home Grown,” its debut independently distributed record.

Jimmy De Martini, a tenor singer, and violinist joined the ensemble at this time. John Driskell Hopkins, a friend of Brown’s, filled in as the band’s bass player in 2005 and helped them complete “Toes,” their first number-one smash song.

The song later was released as the band’s second single from “The Foundation,” their big label debut from 2008. From that album, “Chicken Fried,” “Whatever It Is,” “Highway 20 Ride,” and “Free” were additional hit songs.

The Zac Brown Band then secured a record deal with Live Nation Artists Records and added Chris Fryar as a drummer. Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Clay Cook joined the ensemble in 2009.

The second record by The Zac Brown Band, “You Get What You Give,” was made available in 2010. The hit songs “As She’s Walking Away,” a duet with Alan Jackson, “Colder Weather,” “Knee Deep,” and “Keep Me in Mind” were produced from the album, which debuted at number one on both the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Top Country Albums.

Following the album in 2012 were the songs, “Uncaged,” which produced the songs “Goodbye in Her Eyes,” “Jump Right In,” and “Sweet Annie,”. The Zac Brown Band then issued the four-song digital EP “The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1” which was created by Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters

The Zac Brown Band released the album “Jekyll + Hyde” in 2015 after deciding to work with Big Machine Records. The album’s lead song was “Homegrown.” Additionally in 2015, the group sang on “Saturday Night Live” and in Avicii’s single “Broken Arrows.”

In 2016, Brown got married to his wife, Shelly. They were together for 18 years and the marriage produced four girls and a boy. In 2018, the couple had a divorce.

Before the breakup, Brown got involved in an early morning drug bust at the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in Palm Beach, Florida in 2016. Probably due to his popularity, Brown was not arrested but the police arrested four other individuals.

Currently, Zac is said to be engaged to model Kelly Yazdi. The two have been seen together on many occasions and Yazdi was with the country singer throughout his 2021 tour.
